Good Morning, Adventure
Sitting on the front porch of the house I grew up in, cradling a mug freshly filled with hot coffee that is warming my hand, decked in PJ's and a cozy blanket wrapped around my shoulders on the most peaceful, perfectly cool summer morning, the comfort and peace of the moment is almost overwhelming.
In a few short hours I will be headed to the airport, thousands of miles away from the tranquil quiet of my front yard, landing in the beautifully chaotic city of Hanoi, Vietnam. I feel oddly calm, yet conflicted, wondering if my relationship with the concept of comfort will always be this complicated:
Longing for the safety, security, space, and solace of a familiar place and people, yet craving the adventure of the unknown, the new faces and places around every corner and the discovery and growth that is only possible a few steps outside of my comfort zone.
In this moment I feel like I could sit here forever overcome with gratitude for every little detail, sound, and sight, the simplicity of the morning light.
But change is inevitable, and soon this perfect morning, too, will transform. With the sun, I rise to take on the day and welcome this new adventure.
Fueled by coffee, goodbye hugs and airport adrenaline.
